Importation frustration.

I understand that Customs have to check items to ensure that they are what the invoice says they are, but why oh why, can't they be more CAREful with small delicate items?

I opened my EMS package from Japan in the same position that our local Customs officials did - at the bottom of the box, where they re-sealed it with boxing tape and an 'inspected' label.

I was flabbergasted when I lifted the box flaps to see one of the three bagged figures, cut open and the figure nearly half-way out of the bag.

I became even more distressed after noticing that the left foot was missing. I realised that I to be careful about moving around the contents of the box because of the tiny size of the foot. I scanned the plastic bag and was happy to see it wedged between the figure's right hand and thigh.

After inspection, why didn't they just tape the bag closed?

  1. Ah me, it's too bad that your parcel was man-handled and re-packed so poorly but on the bright side, at least you still had the missing parts in the box.

  2. One would wonder why they would even open the plastic bag with the doll body in it! I mean, you can see through the plastic bag that it is a doll body! Makes you wonder if they are playing with your dolls!

    1. I don't know what they thought they could have found. I agree with you though, they were probably playing with it! :)

      Thanks for stopping by, Phyllis.

  3. I was so afraid you would say the foot was still missing! Glad you found it!

  4. I'm glad all the pieces of your doll were safe and present. Maybe some of the customs officers have no idea of how delicate some of these things are. I'm surprised they didn't tape it though.

    1. Exactly! They must have seen how tiny the parts are. It upset me so much. Even a staple would have indicated that they tried. :(

      Thanks for stopping by, Carrickters.

  5. Ohhhhh.... I feel your pain. When I used to travel down to your country and had to pass through customs, I remember watching the inspectors examine the contents of my onboard bag. They would take the doll or stuffed animal out of my bag then squeeze and totally molest my poor toys! I don't think they realize how delicate these toys are and they probably felt your headless doll was "suspicious." At least nothing fell out of your box, thank goodness!!!

    1. Oh my! I would have visibly cringed at them inappropriately touching my dollies.

It's not the first time I've imported a headless body, but it's the first tiny one.

I think the person was just 'fast' and wanted to 'macco' my business. LOL!

      Thanks for stopping by.
